Hotel Glamour
We traveled during low season and found bargains galore. The Royal Garden at Waikiki was the frosting on the cake. When we walked into the lobby, we felt like royalty. The decor is very grand with chandeliers, gold leaf frames and rich damask fabrics. The style was carried through the lobby and elevators. The room we stayed in was more modern than glamorous but clean and comfortable.
The first room they gave us had a nice balcony and we could see what appeared to be a city park with a large body of water. In fact there were several "long boats" with 4 to 6 people in each one paddling. We asked to be moved to another room because we made reservations for a king size bed and this one came with a full size bed. The second room was nice but the balcony door was sealed shut for some reason and the view was only of the surrounding buildings. The room came equipped with a small refrigerator.
Location was great. A little further from Waikiki Beach, but still within walking distance. Parking was normally $18.00 per day but we found a special promotion and received a reduced rate of $14.00 per day. This was our last day on the island so it worked out fine.
The front desk staff were very professional. While we were checking in another guest was also checking in and apparently not happy about the rates they were quoting him. He had used another website and the rates did not match his understanding. He became very irate and loud, but the front desk staff remained calm and very professional. The hotel manager was called down and they made some type of compromise and the guest seemed to be appeased. I was very impressed at the way the situation was handled.
The valet was very polite and even offered to take our pictures when he saw me trying to take pictures of the lobby. I wanted to get a picture of the painted murals on the
